이배는 스웨덴에서 만든 배인데 이렇게 작은 배임에도 불구하고 험한 바다에서의 항해도 견딜 수 있게 무척 단단하게 만들어져 있다고 한다.
이배로 세계일주항해를 완주한 사람들도 있고, 어렵기로 이름난 남쪽바다를 동쪽에서 서쪽으로 한바퀴 돈 사람들도 있다고 한다.
매물로 나온 배는 미국의 한 젊은이가 헌배를 사서 자기가 수리를 한 후에 혼자서 캐러비안베이를 여행하고 미국 남동부에 돌아온 다음에, 트레일러에 싣고 미국 오래곤으로 가서 거기서 샌디에고까지 내려왔다가 다시 하와이로 가고 다음에 남태평양으로 가서 현재 거기에 묶여있다고 한다.
이 젊은이는 한 세네달 일해서 돈을 벌고는 다음 세네달은 다시 쿠루즈를 한다고 한다.
그러면서 항해하면서 겪은 자신의 경험들을 위에 적힌 블로그에 간단하게 기록하고 있다.

정말 이배에서 마음에 않드는 부분이다...ㅋㅋ
화장실을 없애고 바께쓰에 용변을 보는 것은 철학이 현실을 지배하는 이 친구의 항해에 대한 고집을 보는 듯 하여 그래도 봐주겠지만.
(네~ 전화로 확인했습니다. 확실히 배에 화장실이 없답니다.^^)

혼자 장거리 원양항해를 위해서는 필수적인 전기도 안먹으면서 바람의 방향을 따라서 갈 수 있게 해주는 윈드베인(풍향타)자동항법장치
이배는 매우 작은 쿠루져이지만 (pocket cruiser) 원양항해에는 적합하다고 알려진 오래된 디자인이다.
현재 당장 혼자나 둘이서 장거리 항해를 위한 구조정이나 비상신호기, 발전기, 장동항법장치 등의 장비들이 거의 다 장착되어 있고 가격도 적당하게 싸다.
특히 트레일러에 싣고 이동할 수가 있다는 점도 큰 장점 중에 하나이다.
그래서 아직도 이 작은 배를 사랑하고 아끼고 활발하게 사용하는 사람들이 매우 많다고 한다.
나에게는 이배를 사는데 망서리게 하는 이유는 단지 너무 작다는 점이다.
거기다가 선실 내부가 부엌을 포함해서 잘 가꿔있지가 않다.
대부분의 사람들이 항해하는데에 시간을 쓰는 것이 아니라 90%이상의 시간을 항구내에서 정박한 상태에서 살고 자고 먹고하는데 쓰기 때문이다.
그래서 적당히(?) 큰 배가 중요하다고 한다.
또한, 두 사람 이상이 항해하는 대부분의 경우 나처럼 개인적 공간이 필요한 사람들에게도 너무 작은 배는 피곤함을 가져다 준다.
물론 작은 배는 최고 항해속도도 작은 침수선 때문에 낮을 수 밖에 없고, 험한 바다에서 피로도도 높고, 다양한 기자재를 싣으면 배의 전체 무게와 균형에 영향을 미치므로 좋지 않은 영향을 미친다.
